My Vlog: Feng Shui your surroundings

Music provided by Nacotheque

My final project for NMT

I finally decided to produce a 3 part video blog about feng shui. It’s an interior design technique that I’ve been studying for years. I’ll share easy ways to incorporate feng shui design tricks into your space. In my video, I’ll use pictures of my own living spaces and some pictures I took in Mexico City last year as backgrounds for my tips. My friend Marcleo was kind enough to let me use one of his original tracks for my project. I hope you enjoy it!

I googled “news video blogs” and found this blog that was filmed in the Silicon Valley. The video is an interview of an Online Marketing Pro, Joe Whyte CEO of HybridSEM in Santa Clara. He talks about social networking sites that are key tools in crafting your online marketing campaign. He has area relevant advice for us Silicon Valley babies.

Blog insights from We the Media: Chapters 4-6

If you want something covered, old fashioned methods such as tv /print/ or any kind of paid advertising is no longer the only way you can get exposure. You can now approach popular bloggers to get your product, features or ideas noticed.

Company blogging is about creating a human aspect to the online experience. It gives readers straight talk about products and about business. People need that human appeal and real opinions, not just the corporate speak.

Moving on to chapter 5, Gillmor explores the impact of blogs in the political arena. Not with money, but with the reach of online networking. It’s changed political campaigns and had its beginnings with Perrot’s mention of “electronic town halls”. It was taken a step further in South Korea. According to Gillmor’s chapter 5 look into electing politicians, a South Korean official Roh won with the help of youth involvement using SMS, online boards, online newspapers and every available method online to spread his messages. He was eventually impeached, but hey- this example shows how effective online publicity can be.

Exploring these new ways to reach users is key to defining niche markets, learning from your market and developing messages to cater to your public’s wants and needs.

Some thoughts on We the Media: Chapters 1-3

In his book, Dan Gillmor tells a story. I get a visual sometimes of this dear old grandpa telling us Silicon Valley newbies how online news spreading has evolved. The birth of blogging had its beginnings with people, not major media companies. It redefined the term grassroots media. It gave a voice to anyone with an internet connection at a time when news spreading belonged to corporations. It’s kind of a god sent. In some ways though, this new variety of information can be overwhelming. Now, who exactly should we trust? Who exactly is credible? And how much information is too much information?

Guest Speaker Takes Class Online

//mediageeks.ning.com/profile/RyanSholinRyan Sholin – a veteran blogger came to class Wednesday, February 20th. I was blown away by the amount of blog sites toured during class. Sholin gave his experienced insight to online communities. These communities ranged from personal sites that connect family/friends/ and in his case – fans to sport/entertainment sites.

From a marketing perspective, I considered Sholin’s list of online blog sites to be opportunities to blog product news/gossip. I’m a PR student and Marketing Intern at a start up South Asian Music Company. This tour opened my eyes to the opportunities that exist for me to promote my campaigns online with key blog sites.

Since online news spreading reaches a larger audience than any other medium, this lecture was helpful in forming my base perspectives of this new medium. Thanks for the new bank of online blog sites Sholin!
